Knowing when and why to buy something as expensive as a booster box is a very important question, one that requires knowledge both of how booster boxes work and what your needs are as a player.
Overall, the best value gotten from a booster box currently in Standard is immediately after that box’s set has been released.
While a few individual rares may rise in price do to later being proven successful in Standard constructed, but the vast majority of cards will fall in value until they eventually rotate out.
After that, the only cards that will retain or regain value are ones which are viable in other formats, most notably Modern, Legacy, and to a lesser extent Commander.
